“Pee River and Lake Pee”
7/16/26: Updated with the link to the LMNRA FB warning:
This is still a rough DRAFT, and I will be adding much more info as time permits. Just needed to get this out there because apparently nobody else is providing a comprehensive analysis of the Colorado River Basins, corrupt politicians like Mohave County District 4 Supervisor Don Martin, who did NOTHING to get TOXIC algae WARNING SIGNS for South Cove, the Bureau of Reclamation killing the entire river system like the REFLECTING POOL, protecting tourism PROFITS, until ALL fish die like in San Carlos Reservoir (Rio Grande) a few week ago.
MOJO Adventures’ excellent live stream at Lake Mead today, and my extensive comments. Too long for YouTube, so I posted on a new page here:
7/12/26 Mojo excellent live stream at Lake Mead: DRAIN Lake Powell!
https://meadview.org/7-12-26-mojo-excellent-live-stream-at-lake-mead-drain-lake-powell/
IMMEDIATE action is required to give Lake Mead a few more years, so we can address the water QUALITY issues.
DRAIN Lake Powell NOW!
- Lake Powell loses so much water to evaporation and the ground.
- Lake Powell is shallow and wide, preheating the water for the toxic algae and other bacteria in the lower lakes.
Every gallon the Bureau of Reclamation steals from upstream reservoirs to “save” Lake Powell is 100% wasted.
Think REFLECTING POOL!
Lake Powell water MUST stay in Lake Mead and cannot be diverted to venture-capital farmers in Arizona and California.
The volume would be about double.
Twice the water = half the pollution.
Normally, the Colorado water is ice cold in May at Pierce Ferry. In 2026, it was already warm in April. Toxic algae love warm water.
Research:
Water temperature measurements over the last 20 years at various locations.
Why are Glen Canyon Institute and other nonprofits doing nothing? What are they doing with the donations?
Is any organization providing a comprehensive analysis that includes the issues listed below?
I’m 68 years old, get $314 Social Security, have to earn a living, and I could think of much more fun things to do than struggling with WordPress and web crap, researching till my contacts fall out (chronic Dry Eye), contacting organizations, legislators, regulators, candidates, demanding answers …. I’ve already researched well over a hundred hours and found NOTHING. NADA. NICHTS.
Sadly, swimming in the river is no longer on my list of fun things to do, and I apologize to all I took to the lake and river to go swimming. I had NO idea!
- WHY are thousands of river runners peeing into the Colorado?
Why was I thinking that the Park Service would surely have “collection” stations in the Grand Canyon for the many river runners?
Research & Action:
How many rafters were on the Colorado in 2025, and for how many days?
Why isn’t NPS installing septic tanks every 20 or so miles for rafters to dispose of PEE? It’s NOT rocket science to empty holding tanks periodically and transfer to a sewage treatment plant instead of deliberately growing TOXIC algae.
FYI: Urine is NOT sterile.
- Nevada’s “treated sewage” is killing the river, the lakes, animals, and, of course, humans
Textbook evil corporate spin:
https://www.tpomag.com/bytes/2025/01/how-las-vegas-turns-wastewater-into-a-lifeline-for-lake-mead
… Las Vegas has become a model of water conservation through its innovative wastewater recycling program.
Nearly all indoor water — from showers, sinks and toilets — is treated and returned to Lake Mead via the Las Vegas Wash.
This process not only conserves water but also earns the region return-flow credits.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) reports that this recycling effort enables the community to maximize its limited water allocation. By treating and returning water to Lake Mead, Las Vegas can effectively “reuse” the same water multiple times, significantly reducing consumptive use. …
It’s one thing to put treated sewage on a golf course, but it’s a horrific idea to put it into our lakes and rivers. WTF???!!!
WARNING SIGN where treated Las Vegas sewage enters Lake Mead.

They sent me the link to this video, and I’m working on a page featuring recommended channels and videos. We need to document pollution, dead animals, and other issues. Thank you, YouTubers!
https://richearthinstitute.org/rethinking-urine/environment/
… In the US, the nutrients in urine often pass through wastewater treatment plants and into rivers, lakes, and bays.
Once in the aquatic environment, excess nutrients (particularly nitrogen and phosphorus) can cause harmful algal blooms (HABs). HABs are destructive to aquatic ecosystems in a number of ways.
When the algae dies, bacteria decompose it and de-oxygenate the water in the process. This kills fish and other aquatic creatures, causes foul odors that make recreation impossible, and renders the water unfit for human consumption. …
It’s a global problem:
Officials worry urinating swimmers may be reason for 500 dead fish
Swimmers who urinate in the lake are introducing a lot of phosphate,” Manfred Siedler, a spokesman for an angler’s group, told Bild newspaper. “We’re calculating half a liter of urine per swimmer per day.” …
Research:
Where are all the sewage tests?
How are they treating the sewage? What’s the innovation?
How is the Lake Mead water pumped to Nevada residents’ kitchens filtered?
Where are the drinking water tests?
- What is making river runners sick?
The Paddling Magazine article:
https://paddlingmag.com/stories/news-events/mystery-illness-grand-canyon-rafters/
Three days after Matt Wappett finished a rafting trip in the Grand Canyon, he landed in the emergency room with a massive knee infection. While it improved with the help of antibiotics, Wappett’s general health continued to deteriorate over the following weeks. Through social media, Wappett recently learned he’s not the only paddler suffering. …”
“… A spokesperson for Grand Canyon National Park confirmed that the National Park Service (NPS) is aware of the reported illness. The NPS Office of Public Health is leading an investigation in coordination with public health partners.
In a written statement, the NPS shared, “At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and we are not able to comment on the extent of the illnesses, potential diagnoses or other details while the investigation is underway. We will share additional information with the public as it becomes available.” …
The sad state of science in America.
Paddling Magazine’s Facebook post got many interesting comments, but nothing conclusive. It was noted that this used to be the job of the CDC, but of course, RFK Jr. fired many scientists and is focused on swimming with his grandkids in … sewage!
The FB post with the comments:
- Child dies from brain-eating amoeba in ‘rare’ infection, health officials say
https://abcnews.com/US/child-dies-brain-eating-amoeba-rare-infection/story?id=91792009
The district said that the Clark County, Nevada, resident might have been exposed to the amoeba, which it identified as Naegleria fowleri, on the Arizona side of Lake Mead in October. [2022]
This is NOT a new problem and I have read about a kid dying after swimming in Lake Havasu. As the water gets warmer we obviously have more bacteria thriving in this sewage soup.
